Commercial Fishing Pier

Some early morning action at the commercial fishing pier in Portsmouth, NH. The sky was overcast, but a little sunshine broke through on the horizon and helped light up the bridge and shoreline in the background.

Whaleback Lighthouse at Sunset

A fishing boat passing by whaleback lighthouse
Heading back into harbor after a day out on the water. This is the scene that every fisherman gets to enjoy as they pass by Whaleback Lighthouse and up the Piscataqua. Awesome!

Full Moon Over Portsmouth Naval Prison

A full moon rises behind the naval prison
A trio of seagulls passes in front of the rising spring "worm moon", as it ascends just behind the abandoned prison on Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. There is much lore about this place being haunted ever since it shuttered it's doors in the 1970's, and I think capturing it with the full moon helps add to that eerie feeling!

Portsmouth South End Sunrise

Fishing boat and reflections in Portsmouth
And this is what keeps pulling me back to photograph the South End. Rich warm colors, incredible depth, smooth-as-glass reflections, the list goes on! I don't know if I could ever get tired of shooting here.

North Church Evening

North church in market square downtown portsmouth
A different angle on the classic downtown Portsmouth icon the North Church. The dim evening light allowed the use of long exposure to capture the passing clouds which sets a nice backdrop for the clock tower.

A Coastal Scene

A coastal scene of kittery and portsmouth nh
Nothing says coastal New England like this scene from Badgers Island in Kittery, Maine. A fishing boat has returned to the docks at the end of a long summer day, and the Portsmouth skyline can be seen in the background, reflecting the warm evening sun.

Touch of Red

memorial bridge sunset in portsmouth harbor nh
The storm clouds cleared and the sky was just about to explode with color in Portsmouth. But as soon as it came, it left, and I had just enough time to catch this brightly colored cloud as it shot over the Memorial Bridge and out of the frame.

Tugboats at Dusk

The Moran Towing tugs in Portsmouth Harbor

A quiet evening in Portsmouth harbor. The famous Moran towing tugboats sit tied to the pier. A rare sight during this time of year, when there are usually a few big tankers that require some assistance navigating the waterfront.

Favorite Shots of 2013

With the new year upon us, I thought I would put together a collection of some of my favorite shots from 2013. This past year has been great, meeting many new fans and local photographers, and seeing my Facebook page grow from a few friends and family to almost 900 followers! I've also had my work displayed in local businesses, placed first in a photo contest, and even put together my first calendar which turned out to be a big hit.

It's interesting that some of my favorite shots are only from the last few months. I think that just goes to show that I've really come a long way over this past year with regards to focusing on this hobby and doing my best to always improve. This wouldn't be possible without the help from all of you, so a huge thanks!

Boston and Maine locomotive on display in Lowell, Mass. The wreath is a nice addition for the holiday season.
frye's measure mill in wilton nh
Crystal clear reflections of Frye's Measure Mill. I just like the history of this old building and how it's nestled deep in the woods of central NH.
autumn at flume covered bridge nh
Flume covered bridge during the fall foliage peak. I was out of work for a week during the government shutdown, so it was a perfect opportunity to head North and capture some of the colors.
sunrise at nubble lighthouse in york maine
Likely the best sunrise I witnessed this year at Nubble light. This is also the photo that won the Framed Art Superstore photo contest, and I now have a large canvas print hanging over my desk.
sunrise at old orchard beach maine
A great morning at Old Orchard with fellow photographer Benjamin M. Williamson Photography. We both wen't home with some great shots that day.
winter snow at portland head lighthouse maine
The last picture I took in 2013 was really one of my favorites. The colors and blanket of fresh snow are just great, and this one really took off on Facebook.
reflections in portsmouth harbor waterfront nh
An evening on the Portsmouth waterfront with local NH photographer Robert Clifford. This Piscataqua was really still which made for some great reflections.
commercial fishing pier in portsmouth nh
Some great reflections on a cool evening at the commercial fishing pier. North Church steeple can be seen lit up in the background.
moran towing tug in portsmouth nh harbor
I've always wanted a good shot of the tugs from this angle, and pulled it off during the first snow storm of the year. It was extremely cold this morning and the visibility was next to nothing.
saco river covered bridge in conway nh
Autumn at the Saco River covered bridge. I waded into the water to get this angle and to have that collection of rocks for foreground interest.
moonrise over whaleback lighthouse portsmouth
Full moon rise over Whaleback lighthouse. The setting sun helped to light up the rocks along the shore just long enough for me to grab this shot. I want to try this again something and hopefully get the moon rising right behind the lighthouse.
